Amen and Ausar Thompson parents are Maya Wilson and Troy Thompson. Maya and Troy raised three offspring in San Leandro, California.
With the 2023 NBA Draft presented by State Farm scheduled to take place at Barclays Center on June 22, the twin brothers can make history by becoming the first siblings to be selected as top 10 picks in the same draft.
The Thompson twins are selected as the first-ever players from the Overtime Elite developmental league. In 2021–2022, they played for different teams, but in their second year at OTE, they became teammates.
They both signed on with the City Reapers for the 2022–2023 OTE season and guided the team to victory over YNG Dreamerz in the OTE Finals.
The brothers created one of the most energetic backcourts in high school basketball when playing for Pine Crest High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and brought that energy to OTE as well.
Amen Thompson Parents
Amen Thompson and Ausar Thompson were born to Maya Wilson and Troy Thompson on January 20, 2003. Maya Wilson worked in Berkeley.
Troy introduced basketball to Amen and Ausar at the age of seven. They started practicing basketball routines that Troy made as their mom ruled out football for them.
As high school drew near, Troy thought they needed a more difficult task than what he used to train them for. In the 8th grade, the Thompson brothers moved to Florida, where their father had lived for most of his childhood.
They had the opportunity to begin playing high school basketball a year early at Pine Crest, a Fort Lauderdale private school with a strong academic program.
Following their passion for basketball, Troy stated that one of his main responsibilities is to make the best choices and sacrifices for children.
Troy Thompson Is A Supportive Dad
Troy has been motivating the kids to pursue professional careers in basketball from early on. He has been a supportive father from day one.
When they were 9 years old, the Thompson twins made what they called a dream board, writing "Amen and Ausar's basketball dream" on a piece of poster board.
Troy, came up with the idea for the dream board, which featured a list of "everyday" tasks and their common objectives. They each wanted to be "the greatest NBA player of all time," the wealthiest person in the world, and a man like their childhood hero, LeBron James.
Maya Wilson Ruled Out Football
Maya has been an equally supportive mother encouraging Amen and Ausar to seek a professional career in basketball from the very beginning.
They played flag football till the fifth grade and wanted to play football but their mother Maya said "No we don't need those concussions" and they stuck with basketball.
Wilson didn't move when the boys transferred to Florida, leaving the twins to make a decision about whether to travel cross-country based primarily on their father's instincts or spend time with their mother.
Ausar was ready to leave, but Amen had a different outlook. As reported by ESPN, Maya states, "Amen could see how stressed she was, and he genuinely offered, "Mom, I will stay with you if it makes you feel better."
Ausar Thompson Brother
Ausar and Amen Thompson have an older sibling named Troy Thompson Jr. Troy played college basketball for Prairie View A&M Panthers.
Thompson Jr. has worked as a management trainee at travel arrangement company Enterprises since 2021. He has also worked as an online distributor at Organo Gold Independent Distributors for eight years.
Troy graduated from Oakland Technical High School and later enrolled in City College of San Francisco. He spent his freshman and sophomore years averaging 10.4 points and 3.5 rebounds per game for CCSF.
He later changed schools and spent his final two years of college playing basketball at Prairie View A&M University. Thompson Jr played for the Panthers for two seasons, appearing in 60 games, starting 34 of them, and scoring 8.6 points per game.

Amen skipped his senior year of high school in order to sign with OTE, where he played for two seasons. He earned an honorable mention for All-County as a sophomore at Pine Crest by averaging 16.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game.
Amen participated in the 2022–23 OTE season for the City Reapers alongside team captain Ausar, who had chosen Amen with the first pick in the league draft.
On January 9, 2023, Thompson received his first OTE Player of the Week award, three days after hitting for 22 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, and five steals in a 101-90 victory over the Cold Hearts.
