Glimpse Of Anthony Davis Before And After Teeth

Anthony Davis old teeth were crooked in the bottom and upper jawbone. His misaligned denture was fixed before his rookie year with the Hornets. 

The pictures from his high school days which are still available on his social media pages clearly show the difference. 

Looking closely at his previous pictures, you can see four of his middle denture on the bottom were turned inward, as well as his upper jawbone dental, causing malocclusion. At least seven of his tooth needed dental work to fix the issue. 

In the summer of 2012, Davis had just joined the NBA as the first overall pick for the New Orleans Hornets. He marked his debut with a team-high score of 21 against SA Spurs coached by Gregg Popovich.

Recognizing Davis's talent, the late Kobe Bryant advised him to improve his game, including fixing his misaligned denticulation.

Kobe used a simple analogy to explain his point: if someone has something stuck in their denticle, others might not tell them, but he would be the one to speak up and point it out. 

Similarly, Bryant wanted to be the one to tell Davis about his misaligned tooth, leaving it up to him to decide whether or not to get them fixed.

Davis Trademarked His Brows

Anthony Davis eyebrows have earned him the nickname the unibrow. Davis is known for his unibrow, a single eyebrow that occurs when the two eyebrows meet in the middle. 

This is a rare feature, even more so in a basketball superstar like him. In fact, he has trademarked some catchphrases related to it. However, he has also tried to shave it off in the past. 

On The Late Late Show with James Corden, Davis shared that he felt self-conscious about it when people teased him in high school. He even tried to shave it off with his sister's help, but it grew thicker, so he decided to embrace it.

Anthony Davis teeth now are perfectly straight enhancing his smile. From the pictures posted on his social media pages, one can see a noticeable change in the alignment of his old dentition over the years. 

Specifically, pictures from 2010 and 2011 show his denticle crooked in the upper and lower jawbones, while more recent images show his denticle looking straight and aligned.  

This implies that he underwent some dental work to correct the misalignment, likely after his rookie year with the New Orleans Hornets.

Nonetheless, crooked dentures may be a result of genetic predisposition. Moreover, inherent characteristics such as tooth size, shape, and spacing can also contribute to malocclusion. 

Evidence alludes that Davis' father, Anthony Sr., also exhibits his dental misalignment, as apparent from pictures on his Facebook profile. The images clearly portray his old man's malocclusions of the upper and lower dentition.

Although heredity plays a significant role in forming crooked dentition, other dental factors such as oral habits (such as thumb-sucking or tongue-thrusting), facial or oral trauma, and poor oral hygiene may also contribute to dental misalignment.

Dental Procedure of Anthony Davis

Anthony has undergone various dental procedures to rectify his previous issues. It is plausible that he underwent dental surgery to achieve his flawless set of dentures.

The total cost of Davis' dental treatment was likely substantial. Upon researching the individual costs of each procedure, the following data was found on Google:

Metal or ceramic braces are appliances attached to the denticle and adjusted periodically to move them into their correct position. The rate of braces can range from $3,000 to $7,000, depending on how long the treatment takes and how complex the case is.

Clear aligners, like Invisalign, are custom-made to fit the gnasher and gradually move them into the desired position. Its cost ranges from $3,000 to $8,000.

Like traditional braces, lingual braces are attached to the back of the gnasher, making them less visible. And the cost range of the procedure is around $5,000 to $13,000. 

Furthermore, dentition whitening is a cosmetic procedure that removes stains and discoloration from the tooth, improving its appearance and costs around $300 to $1,000. 

Anthony Davis does not wear braces now as his teeth are perfectly straight. However, Davis treated his crooked denture using dental braces. 

He previously underwent orthodontic treatment using clear plastic trays that could be easily removed from his mouth. In rare cases, correcting malocclusion may require jaw surgery, which involves reshaping the jaw to either lengthen or shorten it.

This treatment likely began before he was drafted into the NBA, and progress pictures from 2012 onwards show a gradual improvement in the alignment of his dentition. In a 2016 photo, his lower dental, which were previously positioned inwards, were now in their correct place.
