Marcus Stroman speaks a little bit of Spanish but he has limited knowledge of the language. Stroman was born to an American dad and a Puerto Rican mom.

Marcus is of half-Puerto Rican descent because his mother, Adlin Auffant, makes him eligible to play for Team Puerto Rico.
Despite his commitment made in 2013 to represent the Puerto Rico national team, Stroman changed his mind and chose to sport the United States white and red jersey in 2017.
However, the 31-year-old switched to play for Team Puerto Rico in the 2023 World Baseball Classic. Stroman is a player to watch in the tournament alongside Trayce Thompson and Austin Barnes.

In addition, Stroman was profoundly disheartened by the unjust treatment that his mama Aldin faced following his decision in December 2016 to pitch for the United States instead of Puerto Rico.
Moreover, Stroman released a statement ahead of the 2023 World Baseball Classic declaring he would adorn Puerto Rico kit for the tournament and leave the United States squad for good.
