List Of Pittsburgh Steelers Quarterbacks By Year

Kenny Pickett, after a brilliant college football for Pittsburgh University, was picked by the Steelers in the first round of the NFL draft in 2022.

He has been at the Pittsburgh since 2017 from his college days.

After the team's main starter Mitchell Trubisky was benched in the second half of a loss to the New York Jets in Week 4, Pickett played his first NFL game. He ran for 2 touchdowns and completed 10 out of 13 attempted passes for 120 yards, but he also threw 3 interceptions in the 24-20 defeat.

Pickett was given the chance to start on October 4, 2022. He completed 34 out of 51 attempted passes for 327 yards and one interception vs. the Buffalo Bills, where they got beaten 38-3. 

Pickett completed his first touchdown throw to Najee Harris against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 6, however, he left the game in the third quarter due to a concussion. Pickett's first career victory came as a result of the Steelers' 20-18 victory over the Buccaneers.

Pickett became the first rookie quarterback in NFL history to deliver a game-winning touchdown in the last minute of regulation, in 2 matches in a row. In addition to 3 rushing scores in 13 games, he concluded his debut season with 2,404 throwing yards, assisting in 7 passing touchdowns, and 9 interceptions.

Mitchell Trubisky is a backup quarterback to starter Kenny Pickett. He recently signed a 2-year contract extension as QB for steelers.

In the 2022 season for their first-week match vs. the Cincinnati Bengals, he was placed as a starter ahead of the main starter Kenny Pickett, Mitchell managed to throw for 194 yards and made one touchdown, which then went on to win by 23-20 score.

In the second week against the Patriots, he again got the starting nod, but Steelers fans were not happy to not see their main starter Kenny Pickett overlooked and benched so they chanted wanting Kenny to play.

However, against the New York Jets in the fourth week, Trubisky was finally put on the bench but replaced Pickett in the third quarter, the game they got beaten by a 24-20 score.

Trubisky replaced Pickett who got injured in the match against the Buccaneers in the sixth week.

Having played his collegiate football for Oklahoma mostly as a starter, he was then picked up by the Steelers in the 3rd round of the NFL Draft 2018.

Mason Rudolph's first season in 2018 for the Steelers was completed without a single minute on the field as he was last last-choice QB for the team. He is currently a third-choice QB for the Steelers.

After the senior QB Ben Roethlisberger got injured at the beginning of the season, he finally got playing time and even managed to play as a starter rotating the spot with Hodges all season. In 2020 against the Cleveland Browns in the final game of the season, he played as a starter, making throws for 315 yards, 2 touchdowns, and one interception but lost by a 24-22 score margin.

In 2021 also he made a single starting appearance when he replaced Ben who was out after being COVID-19 infected. In that game, he had a 242-yard throw, one touchdown, and one interception. The game went on a 16-16 draw. In 2022 he was again sent back to the bench.

He recently signed a one-year contract with the team until 2024.

Joshua Dobbs who already played for the Pittsburgh Steels from 2017 to 2018, came back to the Steelers in 2020 for his second stint.

He currently plays for the Arizona Cardinals of the NFL as a Quarterback. He used to play college football for Tennessee.

Dobbs was selected to start the Steelers' preseason game against the New York Giants in 2017. Dobbs spent his entire first season in second place to starter Ben Roethlisberger and longtime back-up Landry Jones after making two starts and four appearances during the preseason.

On October 7, 2018, the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Atlanta Falcons 41-17, and Dobbs made his NFL debut when he knelt for a loss of three yards on the game's final play.

He then was traded to the Jaguars in 2019 but didn't get to play and returned back to Pittsburgh in 2020.

In his second spell, he could only manage one appearance and completed 4 passes out of 5 attempts, with 80 percent passing completion, 2 passing yards, and 20 rushing yards.

Devlin Hodges was signed as an undrafted free agent, he played for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2019 to 2020. 

He played his first-ever match as a professional with the Steelers against the Ravens after Rudolph sustained an injury. In that game, he finished with 7 passes out of 9 attempts for 68 yards. However, he got his maiden start in the NFL against the LA Chargers as he threw 132 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception in that match.

In September 2020, he was waived off by the Steelers but the next day he was signed to the practice squad. After just 4 months his contract with the team expired.

He signed a reserve/future contract with the LA Rams just days after leaving the Steelers but got waived after just 7 months.

Devlin Hodges last played his game for CFL team Ottawa Redblacks.

Ben Roethlisberger's NFL career started and ended with Pittsburgh. After joining the Steelers in 2004 he played with them till 2022 until his retirement.

Having spent all of his professional playing career with the team, he nearly played as Steelers starting Quarterbacks all his career. Pittsburgh drafted him in the 1st round of the NFL Draft in 2004.

As a one-team player in his long career with Pittsburgh, he made over 60000 passing yards, over 400 passing touchdowns, and around 64 percent passing completion.

He won Super Bowl Champion two times and made it to Pro Bowl selection six times, He is also a multiple-time AFC North Division Champion with many passing yards and touchdowns record in the NFL.

On January 27 2022 he announced his retirement after he was not in the team's plan and he also felt it was the right time to retire. His name will surely be written in the Pittsburgh Steelers QB history, as the most decorated player of all time.

Landry Jones played for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2013 to 2017 in a quarterback position. During these years he was primarily a backup QB for the team.

In 2017 he played as a deputy QB for Ben Roethlisberger but managed 7 appearances and started a couple of matches when Ben was out injured.

In those 7 matches that he played, he completed 81 passes out of 128 pass attempts, with a passing completion of 63.3 percent. He completed 925 yards of passing while also throwing 4 touchdown passes and 2 interceptions. His season quarterback rating was 86.8.

He was quickly released after drafting Mason Rudolph in the 2018 NFL Draft 3rd round in September 2018.

Zach Mettenberger had a short spell with the Pittsburgh Steelers during the 2016 season. He was the team's backup QB behind Roethlisberger.

Unfortunately, in his sole season with the team, he failed to make a single appearance. But he was on the team's active roster for 4th and 5th week as the third-choice quarterback and as a second-choice against the Patriots and Browns after starter Roethlisberger was recovering from injury.

Following the arrival of Joshua Dobbs, Zach was released by the Steelers on 2017 Labor Day. He at least managed to add his name to the long Steelers quarterback list.

Michael Vick was the first quarterback in the NFL to rush for 1,000 yards in a season, and he now leads the league in quarterback rushing yards.

He had just one year spell with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and only had a little amount of playing experience as a backup quarterback in 2015.

In August 2015, he signed on with the Pittsburgh Steelers QBS as a backup for injured starter Ben Roethlisberger. Vick was added to the team to add more depth to the position with experience.

In five games for the Steelers in 2015, he started three of them when Ben Roethlisberger was out with an injury.

His performance throughout his short spell with the Steelers was inconsistent. In several of the games he started, he had nightmares with turnovers and inconsistent play.

In November 2015, his contract was terminated by the Steelers after Ben Roethlisberger made a full recovery from his injury. He failed to get any team to sign him in 2016 as a result he announced his retirement in 2017.

The Steelers signed Bruce Gradkowski as a cover for starter Ben Roethlisberger in 2013 March. His signing was basically to add more depth to the QB position.

He played as a deputy QB for the Pittsburgh Steelers during his two-year stay with the team in the 2013 and 2014 NFL seasons.

He made just a single appearance for the team when he replaced Ben Roethlisberger in a game during the 2013 season because Ben had various injuries that season.

Gradkowski remained one of the Quarterbacks for Pittsburgh Steelers in a backup role for the 2014 NFL season. But in the preseason, he sustained a hand injury that would end his season, forcing the team to replace him with another quarterback Michael Vick. 

Regardless, in his very short and imperfect time with the team, he can be considered dependable, professional, and always ready upon call-up.
