Matt Fitzpatrick secured his first major championship in 2022 as he was crowned the winner of the US Open. He recorded 274, six strokes under par, by the end of the final round. He finished the tournament one stroke ahead of Scottie Scheffler and Will Zalatoris.
Although Fitzpatrick had a slow start in the tournament, scoring a 68 in the first round and 70 in the 2nd, he made a strong comeback by consistently shooting 68 in the subsequent last two rounds.
Before the start of Round 4, Zalatoris was tied in points with Matt at 206 with four-stroke under par. As the game progressed, the competition began even more unpredictable as Scottie Scheffler from T4 placed in Round 3 and jumped first after completing four birdies in his first six holes.
The tournament was heading for a playoff as all three were at five-under-par. But Fitzpatrick's 68 points, two-under-par, finished at six-under and won the tourney.
The Englishman win surprised many because he had not won a tournament since 2017 and had never finished in the top 10 at a major championship. However, he showed remarkable consistency throughout the week and made crucial putts toward the end to secure the victory.

The upcoming championship will mark the course's first major tournament, and it will also be the first men's major held in the Los Angeles area in 28 years. Additionally, it will be the first US Open in the region in 75 years. Hence the 2023 US Open boasts significant momentous importance.
Established in 1897, the golf course is located in Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, California. It is 36 holes club with 70 par that stretches across 7,200 yards in the North course and 70 par in the South course.
The first major golf tournament at the LA Country Club was in 1926 when it hosted the Los Angeles Open. The course welcomed LA Open four times in 1934, 1935, 1936, and 1940.
In 1996 and 1997, the North and South golf courses underwent a massive makeover. Then, in February 2010, the North Course was redesigned to restore the original style by George C. Thomas, Jr. from way back in 1921.
Finally, in October 2010, the course was reopened for golfers. Since it had not hosted any golf tournaments for a long time, many players of the 2023 competition have not had the chance to play on the mystical North Course.

Since 2022, US Open has stood as the largest of four major championships in terms of total purse prize worth $17,500,000. Matt Fitzpatrick, who clinched the victory in 2022, bagged home $3,150,000 as the winner's share, which is 18% of the prize fund.
The prize pool is subject to rise every two to three years. In 2019, it was increased to $12.5 million and stayed the same for three years until a considerable increment of 5 million in 2022.
Similarly, there has been no announcement of any raise in the US Open Golf Purse 2023 which means it will be the same as in 2022.
A player who finishes in first position or the winner will get the maximum share of 18%, which accounts for $3.15 million. Then the second-place finisher will receive about half of the first prize money, which is $1,890,000, followed by the third, who grabs $1,190,000.
If two players are tied in score and par, they will divide the amount of the total share for their respective positions.
In the 2022 US Open, Scottie Scheffler and Will Zalatoris finished in the T2 spot equal on points. Hence, they split the total money of 2nd and 3rd place, which is $1,557,687 each.
