VFO meaning in Wrestling is a victory by forfeit resulting in a 5-0 win. A wrestler will lose the match by VFO if they withdraw from the game.
There are several ways a winner is determined in wrestling. Whether Freestyle or Greco-Roman, contested in prestigious events like the Commonwealth Games or the Olympics, they are regulated by comparable rules and protocols.
Wrestling in the United States mostly follows freestyle because of its simplicity and popularity around the globe, except for high school and college wrestling, which have their own sets of regulations.
Unlike WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment), run by Vince McMahon, which does not feature a points system to declare a champion, competitive wrestling tournaments have specific ways of points classifications based on how a wrestler won a fight.
Classification Points are awarded in six ways
- 0-0
- 3-1
- 3-0
- 4-1
- 4-0
- 5-0
What Is A Wrestling VFO?
A wrestling VFO is a victory by forfeit which occurs when an athlete is declared the winner of a match without actually competing.
A wrestler can receive this type of win if their opponent does not show up for a match or fails to comply with the rules of the competition. This means that the combatant who is present and ready to compete will automatically win the match without having to compete physically.
There are certain rules and limitations any fighter has to obey in order to compete in wrestling tournaments. A breach of any specific rules may trigger a penalty for the culprit wrestler, and they may be disqualified from the match, and their opponent will be declared the winner by VFO.
Additionally, the VFO or the conquest secured by the adversary's nonappearance in the bout grants the triumphant wrestler 5 classification points or a commanding 5-0 win.
Reasons For Forfeit
- When the opponents withdraw from the game
- Showing up late than the designated time
- Medical Failure
- Showing up with the wrong uniform
If a wrestler fails to comply with these rules, such as showing up with the wrong uniform, they may be disqualified from the match, and their opponent will be declared the winner by forfeit.
Similarly, if a wrestler fails to show up for a match or appear at the designated time, they may be barred, and their opponent will be declared the winner by VFO.
This can happen for various reasons, such as injury, ailment, or personal circumstances. In some cases, athletes may be granted a delay or extension before being disqualified for not showing up, but ultimately, if they do not comply with the rules, they will lose the match by forfeit.
VFO is a rare scenario in wrestling because athletes have become more professional than ever. Their assistants check their every move so that the fighter does not violate any rules that would lead them to forfeit the game.
VFA In Wrestling
VFA wrestling means to pin the opponent's shoulders to the mat for a specified time to win. VFA is an abbreviation of Victory by Fall.
It is one of many ways, but a common victory condition, a wrestler can emerge victorious in combat in which they win by either a fall or a countdown.
When the official determines that the wrestler's shoulders have been held down for the required amount of time, usually two to three seconds, the match is over, and the attacker who pinned their opponent is declared the winner by VFO.
It is similar to that of WWE, which is technically called "Pinfall," when the player pins down his competitor to the floor with both of the opponent's shoulders touching the mat as the referee counts to three.
If the countdown is completed, the attacker wins, but if the opponent manages to break free, the match continues.
In general wrestling, a fall is a decisive victory achieved by pinning. Firstly, the wrestler's shoulders must be held down on the mat for a sufficient amount of time to allow the referee to observe the total control of the fall.
Secondly, for a fall to be recognized at the edge of the mat, the wrestler's shoulders must be within the orange zone, and their body must not touch the protection area. A fall in the protection area is not considered valid.
It is important to note that the fall must be maintained and observed by the referee and confirmed by the mat chairman to be considered valid. Also, once the official blow his whistle, a fall decision is made, and there is no possibility of challenging it.
VFA In Gold Coast 2018
VFA is the most common method of winning a wrestling game. In fact, it accounts for most of the wins in a game besides VSU (Victory by technical superiority).
A Canadian wrestler Erica Wiebe thumped Kamara Hajaratu in the first game of the 2018 Gold Coast quarterfinals by VFA. The Olympic gold medalist reached the final of the competition, where she faced Nigerian freestyler Blessing Onyebuchi.
Wiebe emerged victorious against Onyebuchi with a comprehensive victory by fall to clinch the Women's Freestyle 76 kg trophy.
VIN Wrestling Means Injured
VIN Wrestling occurs when a wrestler wins the match if their opponent gets injured during or before the game.
However, it is extremely necessary when a fighter gets hurt or injured, the UWW Doctor examines their situation and grants a certification whether or not that player can continue.
Suppose a wrestler is unable to participate further due to injury. In that case, the wrestler remaining in the bout prevails through a victory by injury, also recognized as VIN, and he/she is awarded a 5:0 win.
