Barbasol is an American brand sponsoring the Kentucky PGA Tour. It is a similar event to The Open Championship that takes place in Britain.
On the contrary, the winner of this tournament will not get an invitation to the Masters, but they do receive a two-year PGA tour exemption and a trip to the PGA championship.
Similarly, the prize fund of the event is US $3.8 million. It has now become a co-sanctioned event along with European tours like Scottish Open.
Kentucky PGA golfer's championship started in 2015, and the first winner of the tournament was Scot Piercy who triumphed over Will Wilcox.
Trey Mullinax - 2022
Trey Mullinax joined the illustrious list of Barbasol Championship Winners in 2022. Trey birdied the 72nd hole to secure victory over K. Streelman.
He achieved victory against Streelman with a margin of only one stroke. Mullinax took home the $666,000 prize money following a terrific win.
Trey's win over Kevin was quite close as he only secured 263 points. Correspondingly, the top players who made it to the playoffs were M. Hubbard, H. Long (Germany), H. Long, V. Whaley, A. Svensson (Canada), and M. Kim.
Mullinax from Birmingham, Alabama is also the winner of the 2013 and 2014 NCAA championships. He also has two wins in the Korn Ferry Tour.
Seamus Power - 2021
Seamus Power became the 2021 winner despite having fewer odds to win Barbasol Championship which was dominated by the American golfer.
Besides, Power defeated J.T. by a slight margin. He won the game through the playoff when both of these players had their scores tied.
In the 2021 Kentucky PGTA, these two became finalists by defeating multiple players like S. Ryder, A. Lahiri, H. Norlander, Mito Pereira, P. Rodgers, R. Armour, and many more.
Power was 34 years when he participated in the competition and earned his victory. He performed quite well on one of the nicest golf courses in the country.
Seamus walked away with the total prize money of $630,000. Meanwhile, the last-placed player in the championship tournament earned $6,790.
Jim Herman - 2019
Jim Herman is the 2019 PGTA champion. Herman defeated Kelly Kraft by 1 stroke and secured the Barbasol Kentucky title.
Herman had a second career win over Kelly Kraft in the Sunday game. After Kraft missed by seven feet in the three-putt, Jim took advantage and tapped the ball to victory.
Previously, Herman was the winner of the Houston Open in 2016. According to Reuters, Herman's two Open wins came after taking advice and playing with former president Donald J. Trump two weeks prior to the match.
Barbasol Championship pre-qualifier players were S. Straka, A. Cook, M. Jones, D.J. Trahan, M. Laird, J. Teater, D. Bozzelli, and S. Munoz.
Troy Merritt - 2018
Troy Merritt was the top pick for the event and he justified the hype by winning the 2018 competition by defeating fellow American players.
Merritt won by one stroke against the likes of Billy Horschel, Tom Lovelady, and Ricky Werenski. The rest of the three players became runner-ups after failing to secure the winning putt.
Due to the weather delays, the 2018's Sunday game was suspended, it took place on Monday when Merritt was in his element.
Troy's highlight in the championship was his 133 yards shot to make an eagle at the par-four eighth hole. It put him in the lead against his peers. The Iowa-born athlete's last win was in 2015 Quicken Loans National.
Also, his latest win brought him a two-year exemption from the tour and a spot in the PGA Championship at Bellerive Golf Course in St. Louis.
Grayson Murray - 2017
Grayson Murray is the 2017 winner of the Barbasol Alabama tournament. Murray defeated Chad Collins by one stroke en route to victory.
Murray clinched the title after he had a lucky break while shooting at the 13th hole. He was afraid that he performed a wrong shot but the ball trickled and stopped near the five feet distance from the hole.
On the other hand, Collins had the chance to tie up the score but his weak putt failed the attempt to fight for the championship again.
Grayson secured his victory after defeating the top 12 American players like T. Ridings, B. Gay, Stallings, Burns, Blaum, Tringale, and many more.
Moreover, the 2017 participants in the competition crossed over 100 Most of them were eliminated or cut thus, only 70 players made it into the championship rounds including golfers from California.
Aaron Baddeley - 2016
Aaron Baddeley is the 2016 winner of the PGAT championship. He won the game by a stroke against Kim Siwaroo, one of the top Asian golfers.
Baddeley had his first victory after five years. The Australian golfer last won a golf tournament in the Northern Trust Open, Riviera in 2011.
Both golfers went neck to neck to secure the victory. However, Kim's last drop shot failed to reach the target costing him the victory. Later, Baddley capitalized on the opportunity and secured the win. He hugged his wife and kids after experiencing a surreal triumph at the last minute.
Baddley and Kim became the finalist after defeating players like M. Johnson, M. Thompson, J. Vegas, A. Gonzales, R. Lee, B. Harman, S. Saunders, and many more.
It was the second season of the PGTA open tour at Alabama which brought a rain of success in Aaron's golf career.
Scott Piercy-2015
Scott Piercy became the first person to win the Barbasol Championship in 2015. It was played in the Robert Trent Jones golf Trail in Openlika.
Piercy won against Will Wilcox by playing flawless golf. He bagged his third championship win in 2015. Scott's last win was in his hometown tournament, a winner-take-all Game tournament in Las Vegas in 2007.
Wilcox was outclassed by Scott, as he won the game by 265 points and with 3 strokes. Other participants included players like Shelton, Barnes, Kim, Cook, Weekley, Hensby, Loupe, Barber, Wagner, Baddeley, Taylor, and others.
Barbasol Championship 2023
Barbasol Championship 2023 odds have Taylor Pendrith as the favorite at +1800, followed by Lucas Glover and Vincent Norrman respectively.
The event is taking place from July 13-July 16 with the prize money of $3.8 million. From amateurs to professional golfers, several prominent players are participating in the tournament.
Most anticipated linksmen for the 2023 season include players like Nick Taylor, Jayson Day, Byron Nelson, Rickie Fowler, and many others.
Likewise, the participants of the event include golfers from more than 25 different countries. US players hold the advantage as it is its own turf.
It shall be an advantage for players who have already trained at Keene Trace Golf Club, the field for Barbasol Championship. Throughout the tournament's history, there have only been two foreign winners.
Keene trace golf club membership cost $125 per month for a single membership, and $165 per month for a family membership. Likewise, the initiation fee of $350 is waived in case of six months of dues being paid in advance.
