Barracuda Championship Stableford Scoring System and Rules

Barracuda Championship Modified Stableford Points System assigns -1 to Boogy and -3 to double Boogy, while double eagle, eagle, and birdie are assigned 8, 5, and 2 points respectively.

In contrast to the traditional rule of golf, Reno Open has announced a new scoring system where the winner will have a higher score instead of a lower score.

The number of points assigned to each hole shall be based on stroke to par. Here, par refers to the number of strokes that are expected for you to put the ball into the hole.

Thus, the player may resume the game and play for the next hole.

Double Eagle: 8 Points

Double Eagles are several three strokes less than par decided for the hole. The player shall be awarded eight points upon the accomplishment. 

In the 2016 Barracuda Championship Rhein Gibson made a double eagle in the 18th hole. He also received a $100,000 bonus which he donated to charity. 

Eagle: 5 Points

Eagle refers to two strokes less than a par assigned for the hole. A golfer accomplishing this feat will receive five points. 

The 2013 Barracuda championship witnessed Gary Woodland making Eagle in the 2nd hole triumphing in the tour. 

Birdie: 2 Points

Birdie or better matchup is known for putting the ball into the hole with one stroke less than a par. For instance, if you are playing par-4 hole golf, then making the ball into the hole with 3 strokes shall earn you a birdie. 

Par: 0 Points

Par does not offer any points. Thus it is a stalemate situation where the score remains as it is. 

Boogey: -1 Point

A negative point shall be given to the player as a penalty after going one stroke over the par.

Double Boogey: -3 Points

3 Points shall be deducted from the player's scorecard should he exceed par's stroke by three. 

Modified Stableford scoring offers players a handicap, where a player hitting a double bogey can skip the hole in order to not face any penalties or deduction in their scores. 

For example, if a player takes 5 strokes on a 3-par hole then he can either receive a penalty of -3 points or skip the hole altogether to not receive any points from the hole. 

Suppose, you hit triple or quadruple boogey you can discard the hole altogether including its points in order to not receive any penalty. 

To elaborate, the par score is assigned in golf from 3 to 5 where three is the shortest, five is the longest, and four lies in the middle. 

The normal 18-course hole course is divided equally between par3-5 in terms of distance and strokes. In the past, par-6 holes also used to be included in tournaments which can measure up to 610 meters. 

Purse For Barracuda Championship 2023 is $3.8 million according to the website of the PGA tour. The winner of the tour shall receive $684,000, which is 18% of the prize money.

Likewise, 2nd tied, 3rd tied, and 4th shall earn $549,100, $453,466, and $386,650 respectively. In addition, the runner-up shall receive a total of $414,200 which is 10.9% of the purse money. 

Therefore, each player receives a certain amount of money according to their positioning in the tournament. Thus, winners shall receive 18% while the 90th positioning golfer shall receive 0.165%.

It might not compare to Liv Golf Prize Money but it assures a decent amount to the participants.

Barracuda Championship 2023

The last positioned individual making it to the rank 90 shall earn $6,270. Thus, a good player shall have a chance to earn a decent amount of prize money as per PGA by making it to the top 50.

Barracuda Championship shall take place in Truckee California, at the course of Tahoe Mountain Club. It is a par 71 course at 7,480 yards, equivalent to 6,840 meters. 

This European tour shall take place from 20 July-23 July. Fans of golf can watch the event on the Golf Channel from Friday to Sunday. People can also live stream on Fubo, ESPN+, and PGA Tour Live.
