Masters Debutant Gordon Sargent Parents and Family Life Growing Up

Gordon Sargent dad Seth Sargent is a former top amateur golfer in Alabama. Seth also has an impressive career spanning over 30 years in the healthcare industry.

He took a unique path when it came to exposing his two boys, Gordon and Thomas, to sports. He wanted them to find their own passions rather than simply follow in his footsteps.

Despite his own triumph as a competitive golfer, Seth didn't push his sons toward the game.

However, when Gordon and Thomas eventually took up golf, Seth was happy to support them in their pursuits.

With his own experience and expertise, he became their coach and mentor. Seth had enjoyed a successful playing career in the mid-amateur ranks, competing in events such as the Crump Cup and the George C. Thomas Invitational, as well as advancing to match play in the 2006 U.S. Mid-Amateur.

Despite his achievements as a golfer, Seth's main focus was always on his sons' happiness and success. 

Seth Is VP At Hoar Construction

Seth has been Vice President of healthcare at Hoar Construction since January 2021.

Prior to this, he was the Senior Vice President of Comprehensive Pharmacy Services for six years from September 2014 to December 2020.

Seth also held the position of Region GM at Lifecare Solutions in GE Healthcare for three and half years from March 2011 to September 2014 in Birmingham, Alabama.

Before that, he worked at McKesson as an Automation Sales Executive for 2 years from February 2009 to March 2011.

Seth also served as the Director of Strategic Accounts/GPO/IDN at GE Healthcare for 2 years and 9 months from June 2006 to February 2009. His career started in Healthcare IT Sales, where he worked for 3 years from June 2003 to June 2006.

Besides, Seth holds a BBA in Finance and Financial Management Services from the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia, where he completed his education in 1992.

Gordon Sargent mom Monica W Sargent is a lawyer from Birmingham, Alabama. Monica is currently a partner at Balch & Bingham LLP.

She has been in the legal profession for more than 25 years. After earning a Doctor of Law (J.D.) degree at Samford University in Homewood, Alabama, she joined the corporate law firm Balch & Bingham in August of 1997 and has been actively working there till today.

Mrs. Sargent was honored with The Best Lawyers in America 2023 award for her dedication and unwavering corporate law effort. She also practices corporate compliance, governance, and mergers and acquisitions laws. 

Besides, Monica is also a board member of the Greater Birmingham Humane Society, a non-profit launched for animal welfare. Her involvement in the association has spanned over 12 years, during which she has steadfastly promoted its mission.

Moving on to her educational background, her LinkedIn states Monica went to the University of Pittsburg, where she studied for one semester before attending the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

She completed her bachelor's degree in Accounting after three years at the college in 1993. Later in 1994, Gordan's mum enrolled at Samford University to attain a doctorate in law and graduated with a good score in 1997.

Furthermore, Monica is quite active on Twitter posting and sharing content relevant to her young son's golfing journey.

Gordon has a younger brother named Thomas Sargent. The 2022 NCAA individual national champion Gordon was born in 2004 while Thomas was born in 2005.

Thomas followed the same journey as his big bro Gordan, learning and playing golfing from their dad Seth from a young age.

Since his family was a member of Shoal Creek and the Country Club of Birmingham, the younger Sargent mastered his craft alongside Gordan.

Later the two siblings attended Mountain Brook High School, where they achieved remarkable heights in amateur golfing.

Because of their father's robust physique, both Thomas and Gordan have innate his genetics and have developed large limbs suitable for striking balls with immense force.

Moreover, Thomas has consistently been a committed supporter of Gordan, occasionally serving as his caddie. He is scheduled to undertake this position throughout his brother's pursuit in The Masters' tournament, which commences on April 6, 2023.

Gordon grew up in Birmingham, Alabama as his grandparents Mary and Dick Sargent were overjoyed by the birth of their grandson. Grandpa worked as an executive at Thomaston Mills his entire life before retiring.

Sargent attended Mountain Brook High School where he showed promise for a professional career. He was 5 foot 7 at that time.

He began growing taller in his sophomore year, eventually reaching six feet when he joined Vanderbilt. Sargent won the Alabama State Junior title in 2019 and made history in 2020 as the youngest Alabama State Amateur champion.

Gordan defended his State Amateur champion title in 2021 with a superb third-round score of 62, impressing the golf community with his rare qualities.

As a freshman, he won the 2022 NCAA National Championship after surviving a four-man playoff and earned the Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award.

The 19-year-old's notable achievements include winning the 2022 East Lake Cup individual title, being a two-time AJGA champion and receiving the Paul S. Simon Character Award in 2020.

Moreover, Gordan was named Alabama Boys Junior Player of the Year twice, Alabama Golf Association Amateur Player of the Year in 2021, earning the USA TODAY Male Golfer of the Year title in 2021 and named SEC Freshman of the Year.

Now, Gordon has set his eyes on impressing in the Masters 2023 alongside rookies Harrison Crowe and Sam Bennett.
