In basketball, points are used to maintain a score throughout a game and are earned by making field goals or free throws.
In the years after the National Basketball Association's (NBA) inception in 1946, teams averaged roughly 80 points per game. However, once the shot clock was introduced, teams regularly ran out of time by passing the ball more frequently.
So, at the start of the 1954–55 season, the NBA instituted a 24-second shot clock to speed up the game and make it more intriguing for those in attendance.
This innovation resulted in higher average scores, and most of the NBA's high-scoring games occurred during the shot-clock era. And here we've compiled a list of the top 20 games in NBA history that concluded with the highest score.
