Luke Prokop opened up about his sexuality in 2021. In an interview with The Hockey News, Luke stated that he has a great boyfriend.
When he moved to Kelowna with a different group of men at the age of 14, the defenceman noticed that he might be different in terms of his sexuality.
By the age of sixteen, when his teammates used to discuss the topic of girls; he wasn't really interested in any of those conversations.
However, he didn't know what it meant for him and he focused on his hockey career. In the 2021 WHL season when the game was canceled because of COVID, he got a chance to figure out about himself.
Luke's friends and family knew about his sexuality except for his pop and brother. His father was the last person to know about his sexuality.
In his final WHL season, he decided to come out and speak openly about it. Prokop received a positive response from his fans and family.
The Canadian player also talked about getting the same questions regarding his gender identity, the support he receives, and how welcoming his coworkers have been.
He learned the technique of replying to those queries by handling them just like any other question and detailing how the team will start the power play.
