A Glance At Shohei Ohtani Family Tree and Members

Shohei Ohtani was born to parents Toru Ohtani and Kayoko Ohtani. Toru is a former baseball player and coach. 

The couple first met while playing baseball and badminton for the same company during their collegiate days. The article published by mainichi mentioned them being a part of the same company but on different teams.

Likewise, Kayoko, who is a year younger than her husband, is 59 years old, as her age in the year 2017 was cited to be 54.

Following the age of their oldest son, Toru, and Kayoko got married in a traditional Japanese-style ceremony between 1986 and 1987. Moreover, the couple raised their three children in Oshu, in the Iwate Prefecture.

Shohei dad Toru Ohtani was a former outfielder for a corporately sponsored nonprofessional baseball team.

He also had a short stint as an amateur baseball player in the Japanese Industrial League. However, Toru worked at a local automobile manufacturing plant after his education.

Toru was a thorough coach who gave his son valuable advice for pitching and batting. He emphasized pure form's importance and firmly placed fingers on the ball's seam while pitching. 

For batting, Toru taught his son to strike with the bat's meat and hit left or right. He also instilled in his son the value of treating equipment respectfully, even in times of disappointment. 

Toru believed disregarding other players and lowering team morale would not lead to success.

After practice, Toru avoided lecturing his son on outstanding issues during their journey home. As he worked night shifts, he treasured when the family could have dinner together and often discussed baseball. 

When Ohtani enrolled in Hanamaki Higashi High School in Iwate Prefecture in 2010, which had a strong baseball team, Toru hoped for his son to mature as a player and person.

Shohei mom Kayoko Ohtani played badminton at the national level. Relishing Ohtani's childhood memories, Kayoko explains how she would go for badminton practice with her young son. 

While they were on the court, she would just let him play with the equipment, as mentioned in Nippon. 

She continued and said that Shohei swung the racquet like a champ without her having to show him; it might be because of the similar motions in badminton and baseball. 

On May 9, 2021, during a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Anaheim, California, a picture of Shohei as a child with his mother was displayed on the big screen at Angel Stadium on the occasion of Mother's Day.

Shohei is the youngest of three children raised in Oshu. His older brother, Ryuta Ohtani, also had a brief amateur career playing baseball for the Japanese Industrial League.

Although he didn't achieve much success during his playing career, he now works as a coach for a corporate baseball team. 

In addition, he also plays as an outfielder with Toyota Motor East Japan, as per the portrait posted by Alamy during the 89th Intercity Baseball Tournament First round game between Toshiba and Toyota Motor East Japan in July 2018. 

On the other hand, his father has expressed regret about how he raised his first son, Ryuta. When Ryuta was a young child, Toru worked a demanding job in car assembly that involved day and night shifts, leaving him with little time to spend with his eldest son. 

Despite his best efforts, Toru feels he could not give Ryuta much attention. During his high school years, Ryuta's team failed to advance in the prefectural qualifying round, and Toru noticed that the loss disgruntled his son.

Toru now deems that things might have been different if he had spent more time working with Ryuta on his baseball skills. He now wants to compensate for lost time by giving Shohei the attention and support he could not provide his older son.

Shohei also has an older sister, Yuka Ohtani, who had a brief collegiate sports career before choosing medicine. Besides, she is two years older than Shohei, born in 1992. 

The Ontani clan spent the majority of their lives in Mizusawa, now part of Oshu. Growing up in a sports-oriented environment, Ohtani was an active child who participated in various physical activities. 

However, he does not accept he was born with natural athletic ability. Instead, he attributes his physical prowess to his active childhood. 

He explains that playing different sports and games taught him to move and control his body. Swimming was one of his favorite activities during childhood, which he pursued from kindergarten until the fifth grade of elementary school.

Ohtani's father, Toru, credits his son's swimming for helping him develop the flexibility that is a critical component of his pitching. 

His dad said that swimming involves using the entire body, and the motions promote the elasticity of joints and muscles. This, in turn, helped Ohtani develop his relaxed pitching and hitting styles, now his trademark in Major League Baseball.

Although his social media doesn't feature his parents images, his fan account has posted multiple photos from his early-age pictures with his mom, dad, and siblings. 

Furthermore, Shohei's girlfriend and relationship details are also being sorted online. And many of the news portals have mentioned Kamalani Dung as his rumored lover.

Per her Instagram post, the picture circulated on the internet was taken at Angel Stadium in July 2018, during a baseball match.
