Boxing weight classes in order that range from minimumweight (47.6 Kilograms) to heavyweight (90.7 Kilograms). There are 17 weight Divisions in pro boxing.
Every weight class in professional boxing has a set weight range in which the boxers have to weigh in. The upper limit of the weight class is always equal to the lower limit of the weight class above it barring the heavyweight category. It does not have an upper limit.
Weight classes are an important aspect of scheduling fights so that there is no chance for any kind of undue advantage for a boxer. The boxers must stay within the weight range without going over the weight range.
Weight class for boxing is not fixed for a fighter and they have the freedom to move around classes. Manny Pacquiao has won titles in 8 weight classes.
If it was not for the divisions in boxing that have been created, there would be a lot of mismatches leading to serious injuries.
The different boxing weight classes also have an additional class known as the catchweight class. It is a nonstandard weight limit.
The categories that have either junior, light, or super in front of the division names are considered new classes and are also known as tweener divisions.
