WNBA Most 3-Pointers In A Game

Jewell Loyd scored the most 3s in a WNBA game on July 11 against the Washington Mystics. She is now tied with two more WNBA players.

Although Loy had one of her best shooting performances and recorded her name in the history books, her team was still on the losing end.

She almost created history with another 3-point attempt but the ball bounced off the rim. She ended the game with 39 points but could not help the Seattle Storm win the game. Prior to scoring 9 3s in the game, she had twice recorded 8 3-pointers in a single game.

Since 2015, Loyd has scored 494 three-point field goals in her career and is ranked #18 in the all-time three-point scoring leaderboard. She still has ample time to better her record given she is only 29.

Loyd is also tied in third place for the most number of 3s in a game when she scored 8 three-pointers in 2022 and as recently as 14 June 2023. In addition to the 8 threes, Loyd also recorded 7 three-pointers on 17 June 2023.

WNBA most 3 pointers in a regular season game were scored by Kelsey Mitchell in 2019. She was the first to achieve this feat during a regular season game.

When we talk about the most shots scored from the arc during a regular season game, Mitchell was the record-breaker and setter. She broke the previous record of 8 threes in a game against the Connecticut Suns on September 8.

During the game against the Sun, she scored her first long shot at the halfway mark of the first quarter. She had seven 3s by the end of the second quarter. Her final two 3-pointers came in the fourth quarter.

The 2nd overall pick in the 2018 Draft plays as the PG and has scored 432 career 3-pointers and is ranked #23 in the all-time 3-point scoring leaderboard. She has a .366 3P% in the regular season games as of 2022. Mitchell scored 7 threes on 22 June 2022 which was her career-high before she broke her own record.

Kristi Toliver set the playoffs WNBA 3 point record in a game against the New York Liberty in 2017. She finished the game with 32 points.

The Mystics were trailing by 14 when Toliver took matters into her own hands and turned the game upside down in a span of 20 minutes. She scored 29 points in those minutes and also set a franchise record of 32 points as she broke Chamique Holdsclaw's record of 26 points in a playoff game.

Her 9 shots from the 3-point mark is still a playoff record and is not an easy record to break. Her accurate shooting helped the Mystics win the second-round postseason game 82-68.

The two-time WNBA champion is ranked #7 in the all-time three-point scoring list. She has scored 650 3s in her career playing as a PG/SG.

New York Liberty's first overall pick in 2020 is one of the players to look out for. The PG has averaged 15.0 PPG (2020-2022) and is one of the brightest players in the WNBA with a promising future.

She made a franchise record for the Liberty on June 9 this year when she scored eight three-pointers against the Atlant Dreams. She finished the game with 37 points and helped her team win the game 106-83. Her 37 points in a single game were also her career-high.

Ionescu is now among the elite list of shooters in the WNBA record books and sharing the list with greats of the game. All thanks to her 8 shots from the three-point line.

WNBA 3pt contest 2023 was another milestone for Sabrina Ionescu as she scored 37 points on July 14. It is the highest score in WNBA and NBA history.

She broke the record previously set by three-point specialist Stephen Curry. It is considered the best-ever performance in the Three-Point Contest having made 25 of her final 26 attempts in the final round.

Ionescu has also recorded 7 three-pointers in a single game on three different occasions in 2023. Her first was on June 25, her second on July 12, and the third was on July 28.

WNBA all time three point leaders is Diana Taurasi who has scored 1361 threes in her career.  She is the greatest player and shooter in WNBA history.

When it comes to shooting records or any sort of records in the WNBA, Diana Taurasi can not be left out of the list. The living legend is always among the leaderboards and has scored the most points in WNBA history. She has scored 10,108 career points.

The WNBA game on June 1, 2017, was a game full of records for Taurasi. She scored 8 three-pointers that helped her team win 99-91 against the Chicago Sky and equaled her own record of 8.

She was also tied with Katie Smith's all-time 3-point record of 906 when she started the game. She broke the record in the first quarter. She finished the game with 37 points and that took her to second place on the WNBA's all-time scoring leaders list. 

She has scored 8 3-pointers in a single game on multiple occasions and also in the playoffs. Her first time scoring 8 threes in a game came in 2006 against the Comets and her second came in 2010 against the Tulsa Shock.

In the 2020 season, Taurasi scored 8 from the three-point line against the Indiana Fever. She scored eight 3s against the Aces in October 2021 during a playoff game helping her team win 117-91. She is second behind Kristi Toliver's record of 9 three-pointers in a playoff game.

Leilani Mitchell recorded 8 shots from long range against the Washington Mystics on July 30 and tied the record for the most 3-pointers in a single game at that time.

Although a terrific effort from Mitchell, the Mercury could not register a win against the Mystics. Mitchell's Phoenix Mercury side went on to lose the game 99-93 with Mitchell recording her career-high 28 points in the game.

The PG has scored 508 three-point field goals in her WNBA career since she was drafted in 2008. As a result, she is placed #16 in the all-time WNBA 3-point leaderboard.

On August 12, 2018, Renee Montgomery scored a season-high 30 points as her Atlanta Dream beat the New York Liberty 86-77. Her 30 points included 8 three-pointers.

Out of her eight 3s in the game, she scored 7 of those in the second half of the game. It still stands a record for the most three-point field goals in a half. Taurasi is placed second having scored six in a single half in 2010 and 2011.

Montgomery is ranked #13 on the WNBA career 3-Pt field goals leaderboard and has made 532 3-pointers in her career from 2009 to 2019. She is also a two-time WNBA champion.

Riquna Williams equaled the record for the most number of 3s in a single game on September 8, 2013. She finished the game with a record-breaking 51 points against the San Antonio Silver Stars.

Williams' 51 points was a record for the most points scored in a single WNBA game at that point of time. It has been surpassed by Liz Cambage in 2017 and A'ja Wilson in 2023. They both scored 53 points in a game.

Williams scored 8 from the three-point line out of 14 attempts and helped her team beat the Stars 98-65. Williams ran riots during the game scoring 35 points in the final 20 minutes.

Among the list to score 8 three-pointers in a game is Shekinna Stricklen who achieved the feat on 22 July 2018. She equaled the record 3P scoring record against the Dallas Wings.

The 2nd overall pick by the Seattle Storm in 2912, she was a player for the Connecticut Sun when she scored all of her 24 points via three-pointers to help her team win 92-75.

The forward who is known for her three-point shots also won the 2019 Three-Point Contest and has 468 career 3-pointers. This ranks her #19 on the all-time list of 3-point field goals.

The Western Conference Player of the Week winner for the month of May scored seven 3s on 17 June. She registered her name in the history books against the Seattle Storm.

Ogunbowale scored 41 points in her match with 21 coming from the three-point line. Even with her brilliant performance, the Dallas Wings lost the game 103-109 as Loyd too scored seven from long range in the same match to help her team win.
