Cumberland whose football team got collapsed some time ago could not cancel the game as the cancellation cost would be 3,000 dollars at that time. So they were forced to play even though they knew that they would lose the game. Playing with whatever team is available rather than not playing.

Since Cumberland had no team they somehow collected 16 players, most of the players fielded were non-football players, some were law students, and even college staff.

Georgia Tech, on the other side, had a strong group of players. The match rapidly became a one-sided game. Georgia Tech scored goals at will, building a big lead early on and never letting up. Georgia Tech had a 126-0 advantage at the break.

In the second half, Georgia Tech added more touchdowns while being brutal to their outmatched opponents. They then went on to win by a 222-0 scoreline. In every quarter the winning team had no less than 42 points with 63 points in the first quarter, 63 in the second, 54 in the third, and 42 in the final quarter.
