Tennessee Quarterbacks last 10 Years includes Hendon Hooker, Ryan Tannehill, Jarrett Guarantano, JT Shrout, Keller Chryst, Quinten Dormady and more.
One of the current quarterbacks of Tennessee volunteers is Joe Milton. He transferred to Tennessee in 2021, before he used to play for Michigan Wolverines football.
He spent his initial two years as a deputy QB to Shea Patterson at Michigan. In those 2 years, he could only manage 8 appearances. Completing six out of eleven passing attempts for 117 yards.
After continuously being the number 2 he decided to transfer to another team in Tennessee. He was given the starting spot immediately.
But unfortunately, he was benched the next season despite his fine performance the first season as he was replaced by Hooker.
In between the season, Hooker got injured and Milton got the starting berth back. Against Vanderbilt, he got his first start of the season. He went on to make passes for 147 yards and 1 touchdown in an astonishing 56-0 win.
Milton played a vital role as Tennessee managed to qualify for the Orange Bowl versus Clemson. He made 251 passing yards and 3 touchdowns in the 31-14 win and was awarded the Most Valuable Player award.
1. Hendon Hooker - 2022
Hendon Hooker who is one of Tennessee's products now plays in National Football League for Detroit Lions.
QB Tennessee, finished his collegiate career in Tennessee as he transferred there for his last couple of years from Virginia Tech. In 2022, he was awarded with SEC Offensive Player of the Year.
In his time with Tennessee, he played 13 games in his first year, of which 11 were starts. He made 206 passing completions, 303 passing attempts, 68 passing completion percentage, 2945 passing yards, and 31 passing touchdowns.
He made 166 rushing attempts, 616 rushing yards, and 5 rushing touchdowns.
Likewise, in his second year in 2022, he played 11 games, all of which were starts. He made 229 passing completions in 329 attempts, his passing completions were 69.6, 3135 passing yards, and 27 passing touchdowns.
He made 104 rushing attempts, 430 rushing yards, yards per rushing attempt of 4.1, and 5 rushing touchdowns.
His hard work and dedication as one of the emerging Quarterbacks was recognized and was selected by the Detroit Lions in NFL.
2. Joe Milton - 2021
One of current Tennessee Vols quarterbacks Joe Milton, used to play for Michigan Wolverines Football from 2018 to 2020.
Milton was a deputy quarterback to starter Shea Patterson during his time at Michigan. He managed to make 8 appearances and made 6 passing completions out of 11 passing attempts for 117 yards.
He also had 1 touchdown, 2 interceptions, and 2 rushing touchdowns.
The lack of a starting berth forced Joe Milton to leave the team for Tennessee. He was immediately given starting role but unfortunately in the second game, he was forced off with injury and was replaced by Hooker.
In the next season i.e. 2022 season, he was the made backup QB to starter Hooker. But an injury to Hooker gave Miton to finish the season as a starter.
Out of 9 appearances he made in 2022, he made 226 passing completions out of 348 passing attempts with 64.6 passing completions and 971 passing yards. He also made 10 passing touchdowns.
Milton made 18 rushing attempts, 77 rushing yards, and yards per rushing attempt of 4.3 with 0 rushing touchdown.
3. Jarrett Guarantano - 2020
Jarrett Guarantano, who played for Tennessee Volunteers Football from 2016 to 2020 as a quarterback joined for final year Washington State in 2021.
He was redshirted in 2016 but in 2017 he made 9 appearances out of which 6 were as a starter. He made 86 passing completions out of 139 passing attempts.
He made 997 passing yards with 61.9 passing completions, four touchdowns, and 2 passing interceptions.
He made 66 rushing attempts, -39 rushing yards, and 1 rushing touchdown.
In his final year with Tennessee in 2020, he played 7 games and all were as a starter. He completed 103 passing out of 166 passing attempts.
1112 passing yards were made, with 62 percent passing completion, 6 passing touchdowns, and 4 passing interceptions.
He made 41 rushing attempts, 17 rushing yards, and 4 rushing touchdowns in his last year for Tennessee before moving to Washington.
4. J. T. Shrout - 2019
The 24-year-old Jacob Tyler Shrout was one of the Tennessee Volunteers quarterbacks from 2018 to 2020 and then made a move to Colorado in 2021. He now plays for Arkansas State.
Shrout in his true freshman season was redshirted as he made no appearances. In 2019, he managed to make 4 appearances while making 1 starts.
He finished that season with 13 passes while attempting 27 passes for 179 yards and 1 touchdown.
In the next season, he also played 4 games and completed 24 passes out of 42 attempts for 314 yards and 4 touchdowns.
But in December of that season, he made a decision to leave the team and was listed in the transfer portal and after a few days, he went to Colorado.
He was there in Colorado for 2 years but in the first year, he could not see any game time because of an injury that he sustained.
In the 2022 season, he made 9 appearances out of which 7 of them were starts. He made 90 passing completions in 203 passing attempts the passing completion was 44.3, and he made passing yards of 1220.
In 2023, he joined Arkansas State Red Wolves and currently ply his trade there as a player.
5. Keller Chryst - 2018
Keller Chryst a professional American football player who plays as a quarterback is currently a free agent. He used to play college football for Stanford and Tennessee Volunteers.
He played for Stanford from 2014 to 2017 but transferred to Tennessee in 2018. He actually graduated from Stanford but shifted to the Volunteers as a graduate transfer.
Chryst was a direct competitor with Jarrett Guarantano as a starter for the Vols.
After Guarantano was out injured, Chryst replaced him in the quarterback position against the leader Alabama, and went on to have a good run of form.
In a very short period of time, he managed to win Tennessee's My All award and was even assigned team captain.
6. Quinten Dormady - 2017
Quinten Dormady played for 3 different teams in his college career. He played for Tennessee from 2015 to 2017, Houston in 2018, and Central Michigan in 2019.
Dormady now plays for Orlando Guardians of the XFL. He also signed for Montreal Alouettes in 2020 but because of injury concerns, he was then released in 2022.
His first college out of 3 colleges, he played the most for Tennessee, where he made a total of 16 appearances in 3 seasons. In 2015, he made 6 appearances and made 13 passing completions out of 22 attempts with a 59.1 passing completion percentage.
The next season, he could only make 4 appearances as he made 11 passing completions in 17 passing attempts with a much better passing completion percentage of 64.7.
In his last season with the Vols. he made six appearances, 76 passing completions in 137 passing attempts and his passing completion percentage was 55.5.
After his transfer to the Houston Cougars in 2018, he went on to make just one appearance.
In 2019 for Central Michigan Chippewas, he made 10 appearances, which is the most appearances that he made in a single season. Out of 10 games that he played, he made 190 passes in 294 attempts with 64.6 passing completion percentage.
7. Joshua Dobbs - 2016
Joshua Dobbs, who played collegiate football for Tennessee, has represented quite a few NFL teams so far.
Aged 28, he has already played for 7 different NFL teams including Pittsburgh Steelers from 2017 to 2019 and 2020 to 2021, Jacksonville Jaguars in 2019, Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions in 2022, Tennessee Titans in 2022, Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and he currently is in Minnesota Vikings.
Talking about his collegiate career, he represented the University of Tennessee quarterbacks from 2013 to 2016. He managed 5 appearances in his first year as he completed 72 passes out of 121 attempts and the passing completion percentage was 59.5.
Joshua Dobbs made 695 passing yards, his yards per passing attempt was 5.7, 2 passing touchdowns, and 6 interceptions.
In his second year, he made 1 more appearance than his first year with 6, 13 appearances in 2015.
In his last year in 2016, he also made 13 appearances. He made 225 passing completions in 357 attempts and his passing completion percentage was 63, passing yards were 2946, 27 passing touchdowns, and 12 interceptions were made.
8. Sheriron Jones - 2015
Sheriron Jones was the Tennessee Vols QB in the 2015 season but couldn't make a single appearance in 2015.
In 2016, he was given a late run of the game in a victory against Tennessee Tech as he made 1 pass for over 2 yards.
Currently, 27-year-old Sheriron Jones played 1 season at Mount San Jacinto in a junior college where he made 208 passing of 393 attempts for 2162 passing yards and 17 passing touchdowns.
However, he majored in African studies.
9. Justin Worley - 2014
Justin Worley played for the Tennessee Volunteers from 2011 to 2014, where he made a total of 24 match appearances.
In his first year as one of the TN quarterbacks, played in 4 matches and made 48 passing completions out of 87 passing attempts as his passing completion percentage was 55.2.
He made 604 passing yards, one passing touchdown, and 3 interceptions.
2013, was the season he made the most appearances in the 4 years he spent with the team with 8 appearances.
In the last season with the team, he managed 7 appearances as he made 157 complete passes out of 252 passing attempts and a 62.3 passing completion percentage with 1,579 passing yards.
In 2015, he signed with an NFL team the Chicago Bears practice squad but his contract was terminated shortly in less than 15 days.
10. Nathan Peterman - 2013
Currently Chicago Bears quarterback, Nathan Peterman played for two different colleges including Tennessee and Pittsburgh.
He played as a quarterback for Tennessee from 2012 to 2014 and Pittsburgh from 2015 to 2016.
In 2012 Peterman was redshirted as it was his first year so made no appearance, in the next year, he went on to play 3 matches as he made 10 passes out of 23 attempts with 43.5 passing completion percent and 45 passing yards with 2 interceptions.
Likewise, in his last year with the Volunteers, he made 6 appearances in total, 10 passing out of 20 attempts as the passing completion percentage was 50.
He made 49 passing yards with no passing touchdown and interception.
After transferring to Pittsburgh, he made a total of 35 appearances, 398 passings out of 662 attempts, and a passing completion percentage of 60.1.
He made passing yards of 5236, 47 passing touchdowns, and 17 interceptions.
He joined the Buffalo Bills in the 2017 NFL drafts as the team's 8th quarterback for competition in backup position with T. J. Yates and Cardale Jones.
He joined the Chicago Bears in 2022 and still plays there.
