Many high-profile collegiate basketball players have entered the 2023 transfer portal, while the coaches are preparing for the upcoming season.
Student-athletes can use the transfer gateway to declare their wish to transfer by adding their names to a database online. Its purpose is to make the transfer procedure more transparent and give student-athletes a way to express their decision to transfer.
Over 1,000 players entered the portal in 2023, and many of them got accepted into top programs. The college basketball transfer portal deadline was on May 11, 2023, and many players had already signed with new teams and entered the portal.

Kansas Jayhawks are currently working on the final touches on their men's basketball lineup for the 2023–24 season under head coach Bill Self.
Despite losing a remarkable eight players to the portal, the Jayhawks top the list. With a large number of players leaving before the deadline, Kansas has been active in the transfer gateway.
Kansas Jayhawks signed Ernest Udeh, who could be the most interesting freshman to watch. The Jayhawks men's basketball team has won a number of titles, including the titles of the NCAA Tournament Championship in 1952, 1988, 2008, and 2022.
West Virginia has been also active with a number of players joining the portal. It has the best transfer class due to Kerr Kriisa's commitment.
Kerr Kriisa played a significant role for the Wildcats for the last three years, averaging 9.9 points and 5.1 assists per game this past season.
The TCU Horned Frogs completed the 2021–22 season 21–13 overall and 8–10 in Big 12 play, placing them seventh. They defeated Texas in the Big 12 tournament's quarterfinals as the No. 5 seed before falling to Kansas in the final.
TCU has so far made a big impression in the transfer season, adding fresh players to make up the roster. They finished fifth overall in 2021–22 after going 21–13 overall and 8–10 in Big 12 play.

Hunter Dickinson has been one of the top centers in the country for the previous three seasons, making him the best player in the portal. In 2021, he was named to the consensus second-team All-American.
Dickinson achieved his 31st career double-double on March 18 during the second round of the 2023 National Invitation Tournament with 21 points and 11 rebounds.
He was also named to the consensus second-team All-American, becoming the 13th player and the first consensus All-American since Nik Stauskas in 2014.
Max Abmas made an early impression while winning the 2021 NCAA tournament and scoring the most points in the entire country. He had previously spent four seasons as a player at Oral Roberts.
Abmas was voted the Summit League Player of the Year and first-team all-conference at the end of the 2020–21 season. He had a career-high 42 points on February 13, 2021, as his team defeated South Dakota State 103-86.
Caleb Love currently plays for the Arizona Wildcats, he spent three seasons at North Carolina as a key piece of the 2022 Final Four run. When he was a senior, love scored 40 points against Cardinal Ritter High School and a career-high 42 points against East St. Louis High School.
According to 247Sports, Caleb is the No. 2 point guard and the No. 7 player overall in the 2020 class. He led UCLA to a 73-66 victory in the Sweet Sixteen of the 2022 NCAA Tournament by scoring 27 of his career-high 30 points in the second half.
Harrison Ingram attended St. Mark's School of Texas in Dallas, Texas, and was widely regarded as a five-star recruit. Ingram was a sophomore and had received scholarship offers from numerous NCAA Division I schools, including Baylor and Kansas.

Grant Nelson, a freshman college basketball player for NDSU who started five of his 27 games, was named the Summit League's Sixth Man of the Year after averaging 6.3 points and 3.7 rebounds per match.
In January 2023, Nelson was playing his junior year when a highlight tape of his performance went viral. Grant had a game average of 17.9 points, 8.9 rebounds, and shot 53.2% from the field as a junior.
Mike Sharavjamts, a native of Mongolia and the first member of the nation to play men's basketball on the Division I level, was the only freshman on the Dayton team in 2016.
He was named to the Atlantic 10 Conference All-Rookie team after playing 30 games and averaging 5.6 points and 2.6 assists. Sharavjamts is the sixth player to leave Dayton since December and the fourth to leave since the season finished on March 12, 2023.
After losing Mustapha Amzil, R.J. Blakney, and Richard Amaefule to the transfer site, Dayton now has at least five scholarships to deal with for the 2023–24 roster.
Creighton Bluejays player Arthur Kaluma was chosen as the starter for the start of his debut season. He ended the season with an average of 10.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.
Kaluma was on the Karl Malone Award watch list when he began his sophomore season. He participated in AfroBasket 2021 as a member of the Uganda men's national basketball team.
D'Marco Dunn has officially entered the portal and he is the ninth member of the Tar Heels roster to enter following the 2022-23 campaign.
Dunn participated in 50 games overall, including 27 for North Carolina who had averages of 2.7 points, 0.7 rebounds, and 0.2 assists per game, but he had trouble getting off the bench.
Former Utah Valley basketball player Aziz Bandaogo transferred to Cincinnati Bearcats. For Utah Valley, he had 105 dunks, five three-pointers on 13 shots, and was often used wide to start handoffs.
Bandaogo, a native of Dakar, Senegal, participated in the NBA African Academy. In his first season at Akron, he only appeared in 15 minutes in seven games, and as a sophomore, he averaged 12.2 minutes.
