Preston Summerhays Father and Caddie
Boyd Summerhays is not only the father but also the caddie of Preston Summerhays, the 2019 U.S. Junior Amateur Champion.
Boyd is the brother of Korn Ferry Tour player Daniel. Both are the nephew of Bruce Summerhays who has 3 wins in the PGA Tour Championships.
Having a golfer patriarch is a gift for the young teen, and having him as your caddie is a bonus. Preston is blessed to get all the required insights from his old man's past experience and unconditional support.
Boyd has been coaching Preston since he started playing and the father-son duo has accomplished a lot together, especially at such a young age.
Preston had previously qualified for the U.S. Open 2020 as he won the U.S. Junior Amateur. He has so far competed in 3 events on the PGA Tour.
Preston Summerhays Family Life
Barbara Jean Summerhays is the mother of Preston. She got married to Boyd on July 29, 2000, and has been blessed with three beautiful kids.
The couple became parents for the first time on 22 July 2002 with the birth of Preston. Their second-child Gracie was born in July 2004.
Gracie and Preston also have a younger brother named Cameron Summerhays. The younger one is currently competing at the junior golf level.
Preston's sister Grace Summerhays qualified (as an amateur) for the U.S. Open in a field of 68 players with only two slots on May 30, 2023.
The Summerhays clan are blessed with golf genes and the family doesn't seem to catch a break from the sport. Grace is also currently enrolled in ASU and represents the Sun Devils.
The lineage has continued since Boyd's grandfather was the head coach at the University of Utah. His pop played collegiate golf, his uncle is Bruce Summerhays, and his brother is Daniel Summerhays.
It is pretty evident that golf runs deep in the blood of Summerhays. If early signs are to go by, both Preston and Grace are bound for greatness.
