NCAA College Baseball World Series Umpires 2023 are Ramon Armendariz, Angel Campos, Brandon Cooper, Jeff Head, Casey Moser, and others.
The 2023 baseball championship started on June 16 and will end on June 26, crowning the NCAA Division I college baseball champion for the season. Eight teams have already gathered in Omaha, Nebraska, to play the series.
Charles Schwab Field Omaha has been the official venue of the series so far, where the Bracket winner 1 faces off Bracket 2 winner in a Best of two out of three finals format.
ESPN serves as the official broadcaster of the event. The 2023 annual championship started with a win for Oral Roberts over TCU Horned Frogs.
While Virginia Cavaliers and Stanford Cardinal are already eliminated, Florida Gators, LSU Tigers, TCU, and Wake Forest are battling for the title.
With these teams ready for the biggest college baseball championship event of the year, the following CWS Umpires 2023 are readier than ever.
Ramon Armendariz
Ramon Armendariz currently officiates college baseball games in the Western Athletic Conference and the Pac-12 Conference in NCAA Division I.
Meanwhile, Armendariz is best known for his time in MLB as a reserve umpire from 2004 to 2007, where he officiated a total of 61 games. After that, he returned to college baseball and has now reached the 2023 College Series.
Ramon is a 1995 graduate of the Harry Wendelstedt Professional Baseball Umpire School. He refereed in Rookie League and Class A minor league right after graduating until the 1998 season.
In 1999, his skills upgraded to the AAA Pacific Coast League, where he worked till 2007. The following year, Armendariz moved to the Chinese Professional Baseball League in 2009.
His major career highlight includes his match officiating duties at the 2006 World Baseball Classic, where Japan won the inaugural tournament.
Angel Campos
Angel Campos was born in Montclair, California, on August 22, 1973. Campos embarked on his umpiring career in the minor leagues in 2000.
During his initial days, he thoroughly worked in the Arizona League, Northwest League, Midwest League, California League, and Texas League. He made a notable move to the Pacific Coast League in 2004.
His growing notability offered him a chance to officiate in the 2006 World Baseball Classic. He then umpired his first MLB game on May 3, 2007.
After that, Campos was a part of the MLB umpire staff till 2012 as a replacement for the regular officials. While he did not adjudicate any MLB game in 2013, Angel looked after the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers.
He made a comeback in Major League Baseball in 2014 and looked after 36 games. Meanwhile, Campos is currently looking after CWS games.
Brandon Cooper
Brandon Cooper has been officiating NCAA events since 1999. Cooper has been through almost all of the NCAA Division I conferences to date.
With so much knowledge on his plate, he was an author for Ump-Attire while also working on his umpiring duties during the tournament season.
Cooper has evolved into a business mind, leading True Officials alongside Nate Huber. The company provides baseball umpires, basketball and football referees, and the finest sporting goods for all their officiating needs.
Now that he is settled in Louisville with his family, he is also a dedicated realtor at Nest Realty. Furthermore, Cooper is a dedicated father to three kids, two of them are on the Autism spectrum.
Jeff Head
Jeff Head currently officiates on the SEC and ACC Conference, thus making his way for the list of College World Series Umpires in 2023.
Jeff is a veteran umpire in the NCAA Div 1 baseball arena, having previously looked after the three CSW events back in 2011, 2014, and 2017.
He graduated from the Wendelstedt Umpire School and hoped to umpire on the MLB field. However, an elbow surgery in his junior year in college rendered him off the dream.
Even so, Jeff made it to the ten seasons of MLB and MiLB combined while reaching AAA, the Liga Venezolana de Béisbol Profesional. He now works in MLB Partner League American Association.
Likewise, Head is also an umpiring instructor at Umpire Placement Course, which he joined in 2020. His knowledge of the 3-umpire system and experience in MiLB is truly impressive.
Casey Moser
Casey Moser started out as an umpire for Pacific Coast League from 2002 to 2010. He also officiated games at the 2006 World Baseball Classic.
Moser was born on April 18, 1977, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He graduated from Midwestern State University in 1997 before being an umpire.
Likewise, he also umpired 37 MLB games on a fill-in basis between 2005 and 2010. Since then, he has remained a notable NCAA Division I umpire.
Apart from his officiating career, Casey is an instructor at Wichita Falls Umpires Association (WFUA). He now resides in Iowa Park with his family.
Moreover, he is also the current Superintendent at Taylor Morrison since he excels in carpentry and construction. Before that, Moser was a construction manager at MileStone Community Builders, LLC, from 2021 to 2022.
He was also a Project Manager and Designer at Morrell Construction Inc., followed by a four-year stint as the Regional Manager of ABM Cabinets.
Travis Reininger
Another veteran umpire, Travis Reininger, will look after the 2023 College World Series. Travis was born on 12 Dec 1975, in Richmond, Virginia.
He graduated from Western State College and began umpiring professionally in 1997. His first stop was the Pioneer League, followed by the Midwest League, Florida State League, and Eastern League.
He debuted in the Pacific Coast League in 2002, joined MLB in 2005, and worked there till 2008. Travis appeared in 75 games as a fill-in umpire in Major League Baseball.
In between, he was also a part of the 2006 World Baseball Classic officiating team. While he runs a guided duck and goose hunting company, he also makes time for NCAA Division-I games.
Moreover, Travis Reininger also hosts the annual BYBSA Summer Umpire Class in Brighton, Colorado.
David Savage
David Savage from Lawrenceville is currently on his first CWS. Meanwhile, David boasts a long 20-year career working in college baseball games.
He is a former high school coach currently working in facility planning at the Rhodes Jordan Park Community Center, which he joined in 2018.
Originally from Tampa, his officiating career began by looking over junior college games, followed by NAIA, NCAA Division II, and Division I games.
Meanwhile, David previously worked in the NCAA Regionals and Super Regionals. At Division I, Savage is a full-time umpire for both the ACC and SEC during regular seasons.
He usually tends to officiate 85 to 90 college baseball games per year in two conferences. As a former high school coach, David has instructed at Duluth, Salem, Blessed Trinity, and Chestatee High School.
Billy Van Raaphorst
Chief umpire Billy Van Raaphorst, made headlines when he ejected Tennessee centerfielder Drew Gilbert during Game 1 of the NCAA Tournament Knoxville Super Regional.
Yahoo Sports shared his official statement behind the decision, adhering to his strict umpireship. Billy is one of the brothers of former NFL quarterback Jeff Van Raaphorst.
With sports running in the family, Billy opted for a different path than others. Similarly, the crowd often praises him for his open identification as a part of the LGBTQ+ community.
Linus Baker, Perry Costello, Mile Jarboe, Mike Morris, Shawn Rakos, Greg Street, and David Uyl are the fill-in umpires for the series. While the 2022 umpires received UMPLIFE packing cube gift boxes from Ump Attire, the same trend is likely to follow this year as well.
